Meet the Breeds – Western Style
Eleven members of the Western English Setter Club (WESC), 5 two-legged and 6 four-legged, participated in a Meet the Breeds (MTB) event sponsored by the American Kennel Club (AKC) on August 26th and 27th.
The MTB event was held in conjunction with the International Kennel Club’s “All American Dog Show” held at McCormick Place in Chicago. Eighty-five different AKC recognized breeds were on display during the two-day event,
including our beloved English Setters.
In an effort to increase familiarity with the various breeds, AKC not only reserved space for exhibitors but provided high quality, custom designed backgrounds for each breed booth and offered a stipend to each club to help offset member expenses.
An estimated 500 visitors stopped by the WESC booth to meet and learn about English Setters. In addition, several local news outlets, who reported on the show, conducted interviews of club members which aired locally and nationally.
WESC members who participated were MaryAnn Rodgers; Julie Sopko and Kyla; Nicki Belczak with Rey and Winnie; and Ross and Cynthia Rice with Elsa, Mari, and Sprout.
